Special Music School Facilities

Special Music School (SMS) is located in the Goodman House on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The school is a division of Kaufman Center, which also comprises Lucy Moses School (LMS), New York's largest community arts school, and Merkin Concert Hall. SMS's facilities include many shared resources with LMS and Merkin Hall.

Student concerts and performances are held in Ann Goodman Recital Hall, which has two Steinway pianos, as well as Merkin Concert Hall. Students have access to music studios with over 50 pianos, as well as a state-of-the-art electronic piano studio. Kaufman Center houses the Birnbaum Music Library, which is used by our students. Every classroom has at least one computer that is connected to the Internet.

The school has three play areas: an indoor space, a small outdoor area and a large rooftop playground. Students leave the school once a week for gym class.
