Nadejda Vlaeva, piano

Thursday, December 10, 2009 7:30 pm

Bulgarian Pianist, Nadejda Vlaeva, will perform an intriguing program of rarities, including a World Premiere and a New York Premiere.

The program will include: Sonata No. 2 by Sergei Bortkiewicz, a brilliant Romantic composer in the same vein as Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff; Prokofiev’s rarely heard romantic Sonata No. 1; a set of variations by Alexander Vladigerov, the son of famed Bulgarian composer Pantcho Vladigerov; two exquisite preludes by Anatol Liadov; the world premiere of Lowell Liebermann’s Variations on a Theme of Schubert; and Liszt’s Dante Sonata.

Nadejda Vlaeva has been praised for her communicative performances and ability to move audiences. Lazar Berman called her talent “God-given,” Hans Graf said “her musicality and the depth of her interpretation amazed me,” and Arnold Steinhardt of the Guarneri Quartet praised her as “one of those people of extraordinary ability whom we hope for but rarely see.” Nadejda Vlaeva has performed solo and orchestral engagements throughout Europe and America and recorded four CDs. Her second disc, “Piano Music of Liszt,” was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, Liszt. Her most recent release, “A Treasury of Russian Romantic Piano” garnered rave reviews in Gramophone, International Record Review, BBC Music Magazine, and on MusicWeb.
