Past shows have featured Avenue Q, The Drowsy Chaperone, Next to Normal, Vanities and High Fidelity among many others. With interviews with the writing teams and performances by some of Broadway's brightest new stars, the 9th annual Bound For Broadway concert will give theater fans a special opportunity to preview five new shows written by some of the most inspiring and adventurous writers in town.
Band Geeks!
Band Geeks! is a high-stepping tribute to high school marching bands and misfits everywhere. When a troubled athlete is relegated to the Cuyahoga High Marching Beavers' ranks, the tuba-playing band captain and his best friend must find a way to unite the band, overcome their pride and get everyone to embrace their inner geek. Book by Tommy Newman & Gordon Greenberg; lyrics by Gaby Alter & Tommy Newman; music by Gaby Alter, Mark Allen & Tommy Newman
The Dirty Hippie Jam Band Project
This is the story of a group of modern day hippies following their favorite band, Liquid Brick, around the country. All is good in the land of "Brick" until an uninvited outsider arrives and disrupts the flow. Follow Gator, Huck, Honeydew, White Evan, Pops, Marisol, and Julie as they discover their own community and new recipes for bean dip.
Book by Phoebe Kreutz & Adam Mathias; lyrics by Phoebe Kreutz; music by Dan Israel
Party Come Here
A nervous groom, a statue of Christ and a 500-year-old Jewish caveman converge to make miracles happen during a tropical storm on one magical night in Rio. Part farce, part fable, Party Come Here tells the story of a collision of cultures as tantalizing as the sexiest city in the world, with mistaken identity, spirituality, family, hope and sex—all set to irresistible Latin rhythms. Book by Daniel Goldfarb; music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum
The Scottish Musical
With his reputation as the greatest writer of all time under attack from a group of angry authors led by Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare must defend himself by hastily rewriting his "Scottish Play" into a joke-filled musical comedy. As Macbeth struggles for the crown of Scotland, the Bard of Avon must also struggle to protect his plot from the machinations of Dickinson in this broad, zany, surreal celebration of writers, writing and all things Shakespeare. Book by Darin De Paul; lyrics by Mark Waldrop; music by Sam Davis
Sleeping Beauty Wakes
After her centuries long snooze, Beauty wakes to find herself far from her fairy tale kingdom in a contemporary sleep-disorder center, where all the princes seem to have disappeared! A delightful twist on Grimms' classic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty Wakes takes us on a wild theatrical journey entwined in these two parallel worlds, as Beauty discovers the real costs of flirting with danger, the joy of living and the meaning of true love. Book by Rachel Sheinkin; music and lyrics by Valerie Vigoda, Brendan Milburn & Gene Lewin
