A New Sounds® Live special feature hosted by WNYC’s John Schaefer.
New York’s unparalleled electric chamber ensemble Bang on a Can All-Stars returns to Merkin for the 2009 People’s Commissioning Fund concert. Two world premieres and a New York premiere commissioned by the people! The All-Stars premiere work by international up-and-coming composers Kate Moore (Australia-Holland), Lok Yin Tang (Hong Kong), and legendary guitarist wizard-composer Fred Frith. The 2nd part of the concert is a terrific double-feature: a recently commissioned work by the legendary American composer Alvin Lucier and the New York Premiere of a live collaboration with Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.
Program:
- Lok Yin Tang: Distorted Indulgence*
- Kate Moore: Ridgeway*
- Fred Frith: Snakes & Ladders
- Alvin Lucier: Canon
- Lee Ranaldo: How Deep Are Rivers? (A Map is a Good Piece of Paper)**
