Broadway Close Up: 10th Anniversary Season
For 10 years, Merkin Concert Hall's Broadway Close Up series has been taking audiences behind the scenes of classic musicals old and new and giving them sneak peeks at some of the best new shows in production. The 10th anniversary season in 2010 series begins with a tribute to the great legacy of Off-Broadway musicals on October 25 and continues with a celebration of Jerome Kern, composer of Show Boat and Roberta on November 15. The series concludes with a 10th Anniversary Celebration of Bound for Broadway, hosted by the incomparable Liz Callaway, that will feature two brand new musicals and revisit some of the hit shows featured over the past ten years, including Avenue Q, The Drowsy Chaperone and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize winner Next to Normal.
The 2010 Broadway Close Up series also includes two pre-season special events: Ridiculously Talented: Songs by Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know But Should, an evening of new songs by young songwriters hosted by the Tony Award winning composer Bill Finn, and Fire and Rain: The Songs of James Taylor, featuring a cast of top Broadway performers reinventing James Taylor classics.
