At the final concert in Merkin Concert Hall’s 2012 Broadway Playhouse series, children will discover the musicals of E.W. “Yip” Harburg (1896-1981) through mini-musicals, medleys, sing-alongs and interactive games. The show will feature kid-friendly explorations of Finian’s Rainbow and The Wizard of Oz. Known for his playful, inventive lyrics, Harburg wrote the popular standards “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime” and “It’s Only a Paper Moon” and worked with some of the 20th century’s most well-known composers, including Burton Lane, Harold Arlen, Jule Styne and Jerome Kern.
