Music Education, Broadway style



 

 

Thousands of children in New York have received their first taste of the great Broadway musicals not along the Great White Way, but a little farther uptown at Merkin Concert Hall. Rosalind Devon remembers first hearing about Kaufman Center as a child, when a composer friend of the family used to talk about a “magical” institution then known as the Hebrew Arts School. Decades later she got to know the Center herself – as a student, faculty member, Board member and, most recently, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Dissatisfied with the classes her daughter Carrie had tried, she enrolled her then-8-year-old in Sean Hartley’s Musical Theater Workshop at Lucy Moses School.
