The Young Artist Program at Kaufman Center offers highly-motivated music students in grades 9-12 a comprehensive and unique course of study. Each week, students in the program have a 90-minute private lesson, 60-minute ensemble coaching, a 60-minute theory class and a 60-minute solfege class. In addition, students participate in master classes and regularly scheduled solo and chamber music recital classes held both at the school and at off-site venues. Young Artist Program students are required to fully participate in all master classes, workshops and specialized seminars, and to represent the program through public recitals and performances.
Students in the Young Artist Program meet on a regular basis with a program advisor to discuss their instrumental progress and music-learning accomplishments including a portfolio review of their written work. Admission is highly competitive and requires a separate application, interview and audition. For those students who require tuition assistance, an additional application is required. Each student is evaluated mid-year and again at the end of the school year to assess progress and achievements. Re-admission to the program is conducted at the conclusion of each year following a review of these assessments.
